Memoirs, National Academy of Sciences (NA 1.5:)
The National Academy of Sciences was incorporated in 1863 "to investigate and make report upon scientific subjects" for any department of the federal government. Although the National Academy is a private, nonprofit organization, its mission has created a close relationship between the National Academy and the government.
