Use of Materials
Because of the nature of these materials, The College of Wooster Libraries have adopted the following policy in an effort to preserve them for future generations. Patrons using materials housed in Special Collections:
Must have Special Collections staff obtain the requested material.
Must use the materials within Special Collections. Students will be required to leave their student ID cards and non-campus patrons will be required to show a driver's license or other valid form of ID.
Can request photoduplications and/or digital scans of materials. However, many materials are too fragile to be reproduced. Materials will not be reproduced if the process would result in irreparable damage.
Must handle materials with care. It is preferred that patrons handle the materials as little as possible. Materials should not be left open to the same place for any length of time. If necessary, a thin paper bookmark may be used to mark your place. Acid-free bookmarks will be provided if necessary. Such materials should be examined on the flat reading tables in Special Collections where there is less chance that an item will fall to the floor accidentally.
Must use pencils when taking notes. Stray marks from ink pens and highlighters can destroy materials. If you do not have a pencil or paper with you, ask and it will be provided for you.
May be asked to wear protective gloves, which will be provided for you if necessary.
*Please note: Special Collections materials will not be obtained for children unless they are accompanied by an adult who will be held responsible.
