Collection Access--Policy
Main Collection Management Page
Access to materials in The College of Wooster Libraries
- Full cataloging will be done for all materials, regardless of format, physically held within the libraries. Records will be created on OCLC according to national and OCLC standards and then downloaded to CONSORT, our current online catalog.
- Brief local records may be created for special materials (special collection, microforms, videos) until they can receive full cataloging.
- Full cataloging will be done for all electronic resources for which the library pays to access, or those resources that are freely available on the internet which are of particular interest to our users (e.g. Cleveland News Index)
- Patrons need to be aware that there are some materials, particularly in Special Collections and in video and microform format, for which there are not yet records in CONSORT. Patrons should be encouraged to consult with any of the librarians if they have particular questions in these areas.
Access to information resources on the web
- Full cataloging will be done for all materials, regardless of format, for which the library pays to access. Records will be created on OCLC according to national and OCLC standards and then downloaded to CONSORT, our current online catalog.
- There shall be appropriate links to all electronic resources for which the library pays to access from the Libraries' web pages.
- The Libraries' web pages may also provide links to free of charge and publicly available electronic resources which are of special scholarly value.
- Printing from the web is monitored and charged in accordance with the current campus-wide policy.
Access to materials from other library collections
- The library will provide access to materials in CONSORT and OhioLINK according to the guidelines of the circulation agreements of both consortia.
- The library will make its best effort to provide materials not available from CONSORT or OhioLINK to its campus users through InterLibrary Loan according to standard ILL agreements and arrangements. Any charges for material will not be passed on to individual requestors. Patrons must submit requests via the ILLiad ILL form.
- The librarians will assist users, particularly faculty and Independent Study students, in identifying libraries that have strong collections in their areas of research which the users might visit in person to use the collection.
- The library will seek to establish additional borrowing agreements to increase the body of material available to our students and faculty.
