resources & opportunities
AASHE: The College of Wooster is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. The institutional membership means that anyone at the institution is also a member. To access member benefits, go to the home page (www.aashe.org) and click on "member login". Click "create new account". Use your campus email address (e.g, tmartin@wooster.edu) as your user name. A password will be sent to this email account, which gives you access to the AASHE "locked" resources.
Space: Morgan 303 – This office holds the department’s books, pamphlets, and graduate program information, and is located on the third floor of Morgan Hall. It also provides workspace for our student assistant. There is a lounge nearby (Morgan 304) with chairs, tables, and couches, where you can browse through the latest issues of a variety of environmental newsletters.
Books: Click here to access a database of ES books that are available in the Environmental Studies office.
Graduate Programs: Our office is home to many informational pamphlets and application resources for graduate schools offering degrees in environmental sciences. Click here to access a database of schools and the degrees they offer.
Listserv: If you want to receive updates about environmental studies events and opportunities, the best information sharing venue is going to be the listserv, wooenvironment@lists.wooster.edu. You can sign yourself up at http://lists.wooster.edu, or send e-mail to Susan Clayton and ask to be signed up . The listserv is open to faculty, students, and staff of the College.
FUNDING FOR SMALL PROJECTS
The environmental studies program has a small amount of money to support program development this year -- this could include faculty-student research projects, course-related projects or field trips, or money to support environmental studies internships. If you have projects that could benefit from a little extra money and that would contribute to the strength of the e.s. program, please send a brief description and budget to Susan Clayton for review by the program committee.
3-2 PROGRAM WITH DUKE
Qualified students may participate in a joint program with the Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences at Duke University. The program leads to a B.A. from Wooster and a Master’s Degree in Forestry or Environmental Management from Duke. Various specializations or tracks are possible within the environmental management program. The Wooster degree will be awarded upon the successful completion of the first year of the two-year professional curriculum at Duke. In addition to satisfying the requirements for a combined professional training program at Wooster, students must complete prerequisites that vary, depending on the track at Duke that the student elects to pursue. A more complete description of the program is available from Dr. Marilyn Loveless in the Biology Department.
