The Buckeye Women In Science, Engineering, and Research Institute (B-WISER) was founded in 1990 by Dr. Lois Cook and the late Dr. Theodore R. “Ted”Williams, who passed away in 2005. Dr. Williams was a visionary who tirelessly promoted careers in science and engineering for women and minorities throughout his career and was nationally recognized for his efforts. The purpose of the B-WISER Institute is to enhance girls’ interest in science and research.

The B-WISER Summer Science Camp is a team-taught, hands-on, weeklong residential experience in a state-of-the art science facility. The program is open to girls who have completed the seventh grade. Dedicated to promoting the interest of young women in science and engineering, teachers provide each girl with a full laboratory experience. There will be no textbooks or tests. During the day, students take a full curriculum with classes in chemistry, engineering , physics, life science, robotics and earth science. In the evening, prominent scientists share their enthusiasm in areas such as laser techniques, boomerangs, physics, and energy conservation.

The cost is $475 with scholarships available for students in the reduced-lunch program.
