The Government Publications Department of Kenyon College Libraries has provided free public access to U.S. government information since its designation as a federal depository in 1873. We currently receive approximately 33% of all publications available through the Federal Depository Library Program and base our selection profile on the needs of the college community and local patrons.
Access and Location
Government publications are received in paper, microfiche, and electronic formats. The majority of the government publications received by the library are classified according to the Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc) classification system and are located on Chalmers Level 1. A workstation is available for using those publications in electronic format. While most of our government publications are shelved in the government publications collection, some are located in our main collection, or with our periodicals.
While our library has begun to catalog new government publications in CONSORT, in the past only those publications located in the main or periodicals collections were cataloged. Therefore, records for most of our government publications are not in CONSORT.
The Government Publications Collection is available during library business hours. Reference assistance is available in the Government Documents Department Monday-Friday, 9 am - 5 pm. During other times, please ask for assistance at the Information Desk located on Olin Level 2.
The library maintains a collection of government publications varied in subject matter but specializes in publications reflecting our strengths in the areas of economics, history, and political science, such as:
